Let Cuba Live -- What, Why, and How
Let Cuba Live is a group of Maine people whose work centers on three objectives: 1. The U.S. government will respect the sovereignty of Cuba and
the independence of the Cuban people. Strategies include efforts to educate Maine citizens about U.S. Policy toward Cuba and about the reality of Cuban history and contemporary society. The organization attempts to gain and maintain the support of elected officials. Members reach out to the people of Cuba to help them withstand hardships they suffer at the hands of the blockade, and they work closely with other organizations that are in solidarity with Cuba. To carry out its work, Let Cuba Live organizes educational meetings in schools and churches and works with other political organizations. Members publish letters and articles in newspapers and other periodicals. The organization sends groups of people with like interests to Cuba: in recent years teachers, physicians, and organic farmers. It has sent Maine students to Cuba as members of U.S. delegations to conferences. Let Cuba Live participates in programs of humanitarian donations to the people of Cuba. Those involved with Let Cuba Live invite other Maine people to join them. New ideas and critical views are needed, plus hands and minds to get the work done that needs to be done. One becomes a member by attending meetings, or if that is difficult, by helping out from afar. The participation of those who are involved in other issues of social justice is invited. Let Cuba Live seeks to foster a democratic spirit and enjoyment in the work.
