President Diaz-Canel welcomes the Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba, June 25, 2019

In Cuba, every action of the Pastors for Peace is followed closely in social media, because Cubans know who their friends are, and they deeply appreciate the solidarity offered year after year by the caravans. In this upside-down world, one truth stands out: We extend ourselves to our Cuban sisters and brothers because they extend themselves to the world, offering healthcare, education and support to oppressed peoples. Cuba needs us now, and Gail Walker and company represent our best way to stand up for Cuba.

Cuba, a Success Story, by Alvin Foster [click link below to view]

The video is a culmination of my six-week stay in Cuba, and driving cross-country from Havana to Santiago. Cuba is a success story because it thrives even after the longest, sustained boycott of a country in world history. In a video walk-through, the rich cultural histories of Havana, Santiago, Trinidad other cities are exhibited and the importance of the revolution is explained. A classical concert inside the Basilica, the Havana International Jazz Festival, and a visit to the arts displayed in the F.A.C. in a small way portray the importance of the arts in Cuba. ~~ Alvin Foster

Cuban doctors leave Brazil, offer  reflections

The doctors had been been there as part of Brazil’s “More Doctors Program” (Mais Medicos), which Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff initiated in 2013 in cooperation with Cuba’s government.  Cuba is now withdrawing the 8000 doctors who have been working in Brazil, doing so in reaction  to threatening statements from Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro. For more specifics, see the article posted on this website entitled “Cuban Doctors to leave Brazil courtesy of Jair Bolsonaro.”  English translations here are edited versions of those derived from an Internet translation source.
